Our Building Inspectors are part of a dedicated team who provide support to vulnerable people. For Joan*, their involvement meant being able to afford repairs to her home.

In 2020, a storm event caused damage to the roof of Joan’s home. She lodged an insurance claim and received a cash settlement. Unfortunately, her health deteriorated before she was able to get the damage fixed and Joan moved into a nursing home.

When the Queensland Public Trustee was appointed to support Joan, the matter was referred to our Customer Property Services team.

Quotes were sourced based on the insurance assessment, but the cheapest quote came in at well over her insurance settlement meaning Joan didn't have enough funds to cover the cost of the work.

Queensland Public Trustee organised roofing contractors to reassess the original scope of work from the insurance company who found that fewer sections of the roof needed to be replaced, while other sections only needed minor repairs. Based on this assessment, a revised quote came in well under the first, enabling Joan to have her property repaired and gain peace of mind.
