Our top tips for enjoying your golden years

Are you fully prepared to enjoy your golden years?

By getting your affairs in order, you can give yourself peace of mind and carry on enjoying the best years of your life!

This week, the Public Trustee is proudly supporting Seniors Week from 17 to 25 August, by taking part in events across the state. We are talking to Queenslanders about important life planning that gives you peace of mind, and will ensure that you and your loved ones remain financially secure no matter what happens.

Some simple tips for life planning include:

Make an enduring power of attorney

A loss of capacity can happen at any time and may result from serious illness, disability or accident, as well as old age. An enduring power of attorney ensures you are prepared if anything unexpected happens. If you become incapacitated, the Public Trustee can be nominated to act as your administrator under an enduring power of attorney for financial matters.

Make or update your Will to ensure it is valid

By ensuring your Will is valid and up-to-date, you can plan for the future and save your loved ones from stress during a time of grief and loss. The Public Trustee has been providing our free will-making service to Queenslanders since 1916, and you are not required to appoint us as your executor.

Choose an executor

Managing a deceased estate for a loved one following their death can be a complex process so it’s important you choose somebody who is capable and who you can trust.  The Public Trustee can manage this for you, meaning that your family is left with one less thing to worry about while they grieve.

Review and update all your legal documents

Ensure all your papers, passwords and other key items of information are updated and easy to find.

We can help you get our affairs in order – so you have more time to enjoy those golden years and the benefits of retirement. Come and chat with us at some of the Seniors Week events listed below.
