Steps to claiming unclaimed money

  1. Note the reference number from the search result for money that is owed to you.

  2. Download and complete the Application for unclaimed money form.

  3. Collect supporting documents referencing the table below to make sure you have all the correct identification and supporting documentation for your claim.

    Please review the identification and supporting documents table on this page before sending your form to us.

  4. Take your completed form and documentation to a registered Justice of the Peace to sign and witness.

  5. Post the claim form, certified identification and documents to:

  6. Wait for us to process your claim. We aim to process claims up to 28 days from receipt of all required supporting documents.

    If your application is incomplete or has the incorrect supporting documentation, we will send you an email with notes on what we require from you to continue your claim.

Identification and supporting documents

Personal

  • Unclaimed money application completed.
  • 1 residential address evidence.
  • 1 community identification (These are documents that you use in the community, for example, your Medicare card or bank card that has your name on it or a utility account with your name and address).
  • Linking document  showing how you are connected to the unclaimed money (This might be a utilities account from a former address identifying you as the owner of the unclaimed money).
  • 1 photo identification.

Deceased estate

  • Unclaimed money application completed by all the executors of the estate.
  • Current residential address evidence of all executors.
  • 1 Photo identification of each of the executors.
  • 1 Community identification of each of the executors.
  • Linking document from sender that is evidence that links the deceased person to the sender organisation.
  • Evidence of the deceased person’s last address known by the sender.
  • Copy of latest Will.
  • Death Certificate.
  • Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration.
  • If Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration is not available, an additional statutory declaration advising that no legal proceedings have commenced relating to the Estate and that you do not intend to apply for a Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration. Statutory declaration needs to be completed by all the executors.

Company

  • Unclaimed money application completed by Officers of the company i.e., 2 Directors or 1 Director and 1 Secretary of the company.
  • Current residential address evidence of officers.
  • 1 Photo identification of officers.
  • 1 Community identification of officers.
  • Linking document from sender that is evidence that links the company or organisation to the sender.
  • Evidence of the claiming company or organisation’s last address known by the sender.
